“In the name of God, most Gracious, most Compassionate”.

Aslamu ‘Alykoum Wa Rahmatou Allahi Wabarakatuh, ama ba’d.

Allah (SWT) says in the Quran:

(الْمَالُ وَالْبَنُونَ زِينَةُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا (18:46

The ayah says, that Wealth and sons are allurements of the life of this world.  This ayah applies to many Muslims and non-Muslims these days because its very true.  Everyone cares about getting a decent job and getting an average salary to survive and get married to have children to enjoy this world.  However lets put something into perspective here.  Allah SWT sent prophet Ibrahim (AS) to this world on a mission.  Ibrahim (AS) was a man of patience and obedience. He never rejected the believe in Allah SWT but he managed to spread his message and because of him we are here today. Because of Ibrahim (AS) we are able to make Hajj in the house of Allah. Because of Ibrahim (AS) we are able to establish our prayers and even use the same dua that he used when he was in certain situations.  One thing we forget about is what Ibrahim (AS) sacrificed for us and himself to be that obedient ‘Abd.

Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was married to Sarah (AS) and he did not have a kid from her until later on. Sarah was such a lawful wife that she offered her slave girl named Hajar to Ibrahim (AS) so he can produced progeny.  Ibrahim (AS) had his first kid named Ismael and he was everything to him.  But when that happened, Allah SWT told Ibrahim (AS) to take Hajar and Ismael to Makkah and leave them there.  Lets back track here and analyze this for a second.  I remember my mom would not let me walk to my bus stop alone or even dare to leave me alone in the middle of the streets because she was scared for me.  My mom would not let me be on my own. I am sure your mom and everyone’s mom never left them stranded or even your dad’s never left you stranded in a forest etc.  Hajar and Ismael who was a baby at the time was left in the desert with no food, water, shelter, wealth and people.  All the physical needs we need to survive where not available for them in order to maintain an average survival.  Subhana’Allah.

What kind of a man was Ibrahim (AS)?  He was a man of sabr and tawakul on Allah SWT.  Ibrahim (AS) had to leave his family stranded in the desert for the sake of Allah.  He had tawakul on Allah SWT so he can take care of them when he made dua for them and said: “Our lord! Lo! I have settled some of my posterity in an un-cultivated valley near unto Thy holy house, our Lord! that they may establish proper worship; so incline some hearts of men that they may year toward them, and provide Thou them with fruits in order that they be thankful”(14:35-37).  Allah SWT answered Ibrahim (AS)’s dua and he was able to bring people to that valley and proper worship was established and that valley is subhanaAllah is so cultivated now.

Prophet Ibrahim (AS) had tawakul on Allah SWT to leave his beloved family that mattered the most to him especially his son Ismael.  He loved his son so much that Allah SWT tested him by seeing the dream of sacrificing him for the sake of Allah SWT.  What did the prophet do?  He obeyed Allah’s order and agreed to sacrifice his own beloved son for the sake of Allah SWT. Subhan’allah, Allahu Akbar.

Where are we standing today?  What kind of mindset do we have today?  For how long will be just scared and not even believe in our own message and the message of Millat Ibrahim (AS)?  For how much will we be relying on empiricism things and not believe in Allah SWT even if we cannot see him?  Dear brothers and sisters, please contemplate on this and use your brain and obey Allah SWT and have Tawakul(reliance) in him that you may prosper insha’allah.

Jazakoum Allah Khair.
